The Trouble with Pizza Girls

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The trouble with pizza girls (and everyone else these days) is that they blog.
I love the internet and its bountious opportunities for citizen journalism.  Ten years ago you would never have heard this story.

UTOSC 2008 and Utah Business Search Trends

Monday, August 25th, 2008

My brother Gabe wrote an interesting post highlighting how Google Trends searches show that Utah is a hotbed of Open Source. It reminded me that I haven’t plugged the Utah Open Source Conference that’s happening this week. This conference is something you don’t want to miss.  I think you can still get tickets.
If your business [...]

Intern Song

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I wrote this brief little Byrd’s parody for my friend who’s doing a Summer internship in Texas.  Perhaps you’ll recognize the tune:
To every task turn, intern.
There is a reason. (Turn, intern!)
There’s an intern for every purpose under heaven.
An intern to type, an intern to clean,
an intern for food, an intern for drinks,
an intern for calls, [...]

Android is looking pretty sweet.

Android Pacman looks good as well.

Arson, Rent Control, and the Perverse Incentives of Socialism

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Allan Young plugged my last post in a piece he wrote about the potential of arson as a scapegoat of housing-bubble hardships.
His post reminds me of a similar report of arson, this time related to government rent control.  In Thomas Sowell’s excellent book, Basic Economics - A Citizen’s Guide to the Economy, he explains that [...]

Mozy Goes for 40x

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Looks like Mozy just sold for 76 million to EMC corporation. Congrats to Josh Coates, Tyler Whitaker, and the rest of the Mozy crew for the huge exit.
I’m sure the folks at Wasatch Venture Fund (and their investors) are pretty stoked too.

Utah Open Source Conference Starts Tomorrow (Thursday)

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

My friend Clint Savage (aka Herlo) has lead a team of volunteers in planning the first ever Utah Open Source Conference, which has come together quite nicely (especially for the first year).
News and updates on the conference have been plastered all over Gabe’s excellent Utah Open Source Planet, but I thought I’d post a reminder [...]

UVEF Free Trial Memberships

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

My friend John Gilbert sent me this link for a free month of membership in UVEF (the Utah Valley Entrepreneurial Forum). I’ve been attending some of their monthly meetings on an a-la-carte basis and have found them to be generally quite enjoyable. It’s obviously good Utah networking as well. If you’re a Utah entrepreneur or [...]

SCO Stock Dives

Monday, August 13th, 2007

SCOX is down almost 72% so far today –a result of failed litigation. (It turns out they never owned the copyright to Unix after all. Who would have thought?)
Anyway, that’ll teach ‘em. SCO might not be around a year from now, but Linux will.
Viva open source!
