Building Stability through Microlending

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I’m happy to see microlending taking root in Iraq because I think business investment is one of the best ways to create stability in any region.  Sadly, the number of sound investments available in any region correlates positively with the stability already in place.  These microlenders are taking significant risks to help fund businesses in [...]

UtahInventor Wants You

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I don’t really consider myself an inventor per se, but I was impressed by the Utah Inventors‘ inaugural meeting I mentioned earlier and have been wanting to report on it ever since.
The presenters (including Dr. Dinesh Patel) were stellar, and the meeting was well attended (especially for a first go); but I was surprised at [...]

UtahInventor.org is having its organizational meeting this Saturday.  From the website, it  looks like it could be a cool group.  Here’s the meeting synopsis:

CTO Breakfast: October 2006

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Utah Job Market, Collaboration, Product Life Cycles, and More (Oh my!)
I had a great time at the Phil Windley’s CTO breakfast this morning. (I’ve actually been anxious to go for months, but just haven’t gotten around to it until today.) It was fun to mingle, see old acquaintances, talk about current tech issues, etc. It [...]

Student Entrepreneur of the Year, 2006

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

BYU’s CEO club is hosting the final event for Student Entrepreneur of the Year this Friday. It should be cool, but I doubt I’ll be able to go because of the time.
Another upcoming event that should be cool (if you can afford to dish out some cash) is the Mountain West Capital Network’s UTAH 100 [...]

All Your Cake Are Belong To Tux

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Local chef geek extraordinaire Joseph Hall spent several days making an awesome custom cake shaped as Tux the penguin (the Linux mascot). The killer cake, part of the PLUG’s 10th anniversary celebration, was not only attractive, but super yummy. Joseph also provided a full Tux Cake HOWTO for Linux-loving food-o-philes around the world.
Anyway, check out [...]

Planning UTOS - Utah Open Source Conference

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

I’ll be going to a BBQ meeting tonight (Thursday) to help lay out plans for the first annual Utah Open Source Conference.  The event won’t take place until August of next year, but we wanted to get started early because we want it to be HUGE! :)
Anyway, if you want to come along and help, [...]

Geeks, Grub, and Superman

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

This a reminder that (after a long remission) there will be a Geek Dinner tomorrow (Thursday) night at Tucanos. Pretty pricey, I know. But we are getting a discount, and there will be a sinful amount of meat. :) Don’t worry my cheap (and poor) friends, I’ll be lobbying for you for next time.
This one [...]
