If you really are poor (I was) and chose to attend college (totally up to you), you probably DID get a discount (subsidy) in the form of a Pell Grant. Furthermore, if you did get a Pell Grant, you probably got to use that grant in the school of your choice. This is no different.

Now, regarding your comment that vouchers are only for rich kids, I would beg to differ. Vouchers are for the poor. Rich people can already afford to move to areas where good public and charter schools are available. Or if they choose, they can easily place their children in private schools. This bill is meant give the same freedom and flexibility to low income families. I think I’ll post more about this later.

And if you want to send your kid to public school, you should bloody well pay for it yourself too… Oh wait, rich people are paying for your kid to go to public school because they are paying more property tax. I’m paying for your kid to go to public school because I don’t have any kids in school and I own a home. No choice. If I don’t pay for your kid to go to school the government will take away my house. Awesome huh.

It costs $7500 a year to send one of your kids to school. If I want to send my kid to a different school, it makes no sense that I should still have to pay for the kid to go to public school as well or that I shouldn’t get some sort of credit like a voucher.

As for discounts. You don’t get a discount at all. You get subsidized education. Unless you are paying $7500 a year for each kid you have in school then you are fooling yourself into believing that you deserve a discount.

Why do rich people who send their kids to private school get a voucher when people like me who don’t have any kids don’t get a discount?

Doesn’t sound fair to me.
